About the course

In some senses, this offering is ancient. A small band of nomadic humans carrying their lives on their backs, ascending high peaks, making fire from sticks and stones, cooking over that fire, drinking (with filters) from springs and streams, setting up minimal shelter, gazing at stars, and deepening relationships with flora and fauna through tracking, plant identification, and storytelling.

In another sense, LifeWays offers an important and distinct dimension to the world of backpacking . . . mindfulness and social-emotional skill building. In addition to hiking everyday, our band of humans will practice yoga and meditation every morning, share councils every evening, and engage in individual and group practices designed to increase your personal resilience and capacity for life (hence, Life-Ways). We are interested in not just having a fun adventure (which we definitely are), but in holistically cultivating the strongest, most authentic version of you.

If you’re looking for a rugged, connecting, and holistically life-enhancing adventure–this trip is for you. If you want to walk away after six days as a changed person for the better–this trip is for you. If you want to experience a wild way of living that most of human history just called “the good life,” then this trip is for you.

What our friends say

Kind words from
our clients.

“Before starting with LifeWays, I felt completely stuck — therapy had always felt like talking in circles. My therapist here helped me reconnect with myself in ways I didn’t think were possible. The combination of compassionate guidance and time outdoors changed everything. I feel grounded, confident, and finally moving forward.”
