About the course

This is a 20 Hour Certification course for guides, outdoor professionals, and educators.

Many in the outdoor industry excel in teaching wilderness-related hard-skills and “objective hazard” risk management. Yet FEW are taught how to teach and practice Therapeutic Skills that foster belonging, safety, and connection. The WMHFA Curriculum prepares guides of all disciplines to effectively mitigate subjective hazards across client and student demographics, wilderness settings, and cultures.

The LifeWays WMHFA Curriculum makes mental health and crisis de-escalation an integral dimension of the wider outdoor profession. The WMHFA Curriculum enhances a guide team’s ability to navigate challenging client behaviors, nuanced group dynamics, while increasing guide resilience and preventing burnout and exhaustion in the field.

Bookings for organizations interested in this offering should contact Chris directly for customized curriculum and group rates.

What our friends say

Kind words from
our clients.

“Before starting with LifeWays, I felt completely stuck — therapy had always felt like talking in circles. My therapist here helped me reconnect with myself in ways I didn’t think were possible. The combination of compassionate guidance and time outdoors changed everything. I feel grounded, confident, and finally moving forward.”
